How to Survive Wilderness Survival Month with Troop 20!

Troop 20 started off March like a lion with wilderness survival topics this past Monday. Eagle scout and Eagle Patrol member Wythe Crisler explained the rationale of where to pick camping sites...and where not to place your tent like under a train trestle, on the slope of a mountain near the grizzly bear's den, under a large dead tree...the scouts quickly got the idea, visualization is a great technique (I hope)...

Meanwhile outside away from the flammable scout hut and the church (don't want to lose our sponsoring organization)...Star scout Waring Hills handled the hot topic of how to start a fire without a match. He showed the scouts four ways of getting a hot flame going...battery with steel wool, flint and cotton balls covered with vasoline, flint and magnesium flakes and a magnifying glass (well the moon wasn't quite bright enough). One smart scout recommended a flame thrower, but they don't backpack very well.

If you missed out this week, make sure you show up for future installments of "How to survive Wilderness Survival Month with Troop 20!"
